The WhiteWater

As if the Loddon isn't enough FADAS has over three miles of this lovely chalk stream, which we stock, and share with the trout anglers.

It may be shallow but under the banks there live chub to five pounds and in the glides you will find dace and roach. This is a superb winter fishery. Peace and tranquillity go hand in hand along this river. You can visit the trout fishing site for more information about the game fishing here.

The river has 5 parking areas

Holdshott farm (click for details)

Heading down the B3011 you will see the bridge over the whitewater by Holdshott farm. Parking places are either side of the road.

	Upstream to the west you can see a pylon beside the weir that identifies the start of our stretch of the river. The river flows in an easterly and then northerly direction to its junction with the Blackwater.
	There is a style on the westerly side of the road which gives access towards the weir.
	On the easterly side of the road there should be a style, which looks from the photo that it needs to be rebuilt. There is a bit of a wooden bridge in the picture where the style should be. You can see Holdshott farm in the disance.

When heading easterly stick close to the river and cross the small bridge towards the farm.

Carry on down the B3011 and you will see an acute right turn (sign posted Hazely Police College) named Copes lane.

Hatch Gate bridge (click for details)

Parking is possible by the Hatch Gate bridge.

	You will see the bridge over the whitewater before you reach the HatchGate pub. Parking is limited to the left hand side about 50yds short of the bridge.
	Just after the roadsign, and before the bridge there is parking for 2 or 3 cars.
	Just across the bridge there is a gate on the left which will give you access to the river heading downstream.
	Just past the bridge on the southerly side (right) there is another gate which would give access upstream if it was not overgrown.

Blackwater ford (click for details)

Carry on over the bridge and you will see a lane on the left just after the Hatch gate pub. Drive down the lane until you get to the ford. Do not forget to stop.

	You will eventually get to a ford which crosses the Blackwater. Beware the water may be deeper than you think. The road swings left just before the ford so you could use the road down to the ford to park. If you do make sure that the access to the ford is clear as tractors and lorries may wish to cross.
	If you park by the ford you will see on your left a metal gate which allows you into a field bordered by the blackwater on your right and the whitewater straight ahead..
	Where the road swings left it heads towards the bridge over the whitewater. There are places to park along the verge but do be considerate to other traffic.
	From the bridge you can see the river flowing to its junction with the Blackwater.
	When looking upstream you can just make out a stile in amongst the trees.

	It does look a bit hazardous, but I have been told it is worth it.

Riseley mill (click for details)

Instead of turning off the B3011 at Copes lane you can carry on until the roundabout where you turn right onto the B3349. Take the next right to the final parking place at Riseley mill. Parking places are limited to the verge.

	Just by the bend in front of the mill is the place to park .

	Whilst the road bends to the left there is a lane to the right which (could) take you back to Park farm.
	Walk down the lane till you come to a gate on the left which has the footpath next to it.
	The footpath swings to the right just after the gate.
	From the gate, on the opposite side of the lane, you can look across to Park farm .
